The Camino de Santiago is a series of pilgrimage paths across Europe leading to the cathedral in Santiago de Compostela, Spain. Here it is said in a silver casket are the remains of St James, one of the disciples of Jesus.
The most popular route is the Camino Frances, a trail covering 790 kilometres which takes an average 5 weeks to walk. Pilgrims walk their Camino for a variety of reasons. For some it is a physical exercise, while others are walking a religious or spiritual pilgrimage. Almost all pilgrims undergo, or initiate a process of personal transformation as a result of their time on the trail.
Many are called to walk again on the same or one of the other routes.
